Garbage
and Trash Policy
The
Town of Thatcher has an automated collection system, which uses
special containers required for this system. There is a $7.50
per container per month charge for residential collection*.
The
garbage collection schedule is:
Downtown Thatcher is picked
up on Mondays and Thursdays
Daley Estates and Quail Ridge are picked up on Tuesdays
and Fridays
(Schedules may vary for Holidays)
The following guidelines and rules
governing trash shall apply for all Thatcher residents and are instituted to help keep the community safer
and cleaner.
GARBAGE
-
All containers shall be kept
on private property and shall not be left upon public streets,
except for a reasonable time on the day of pickup.
-
The garbage truck requires 8
feet of free space on each side of the container for the operation
of the arms. Please be careful not to block your trash
container with vehicles, power poles, etc., as this
will prevent us from emptying your container. Make sure the
arrows are facing forward and the lid is closed completely.
-
Please do not place
concrete, rocks, furniture, large appliances or pieces of
steel in these containers as they could damage the compaction
mechanism.
-
Please
do not place hot ashes in these containers as it may
ruin the container and you may be responsible for its replacement.
TRASH
-
The
Town will plan and announce clean-up campaigns each year to
help keep limbs and trash picked up.
-
All
grass, plants, and leaves should be placed in plastic garbage
bags. Small amounts of grass /leaves may be placed in the
90 gallon or 300 containers, however these should not be
more than half-filled with yard trash. Trash in Daley
Estates should be placed on the street where the containers
are, rather than in the alleyways.
-
Large piles or items such as
large pieces of furniture or appliances will be collected
only as crews have time. Large trash piles are those containing
four (4) cubic yards or more. Four cubic yards is a volume
dimensioned by 6 feet by 3 feet. Customers should call
the Town Hall at 428-2290 before large piles or items
are placed out on the street for pick-up. A $25.00 per load
fee will be charged when a loader is needed.
-
The Town has a trash trailer
that is available to citizens, at no charge, to allow them
to load large piles themselves. It can be scheduled by calling
Town Hall at 428-2290.
-
The Town will not pick
up building materials left by contractors, this includes lumber,
shingles, plaster or drywall, concrete, stone, aggregate,
blacktop, bricks, block, carpet and other solid materials.
These should be hauled by the customer to the landfill.
-
The Town will not pick
up batteries, tires or other items considered hazardous waste.
Disposal of these items are the responsibility of the resident
or business. Tires may be taken to the landfill on certain
days by the consumer. For additional information on these
items call County Sanitarian at 428-1962.
-
Trash not complying with these
guidelines will not be collected. A town representative will
contact you about your responsibility and proper procedures.
Delinquent bills will be handled
as per procedures for the handling of delinquent bills in the
Sewer Policy
