Article 29-10 A-R Agricultural-Residential Zoning District

Section 29-10-1 Purpose

The purpose of this zoning district is to represent those areas of the community set aside especially for families wishing to maintain a few head of livestock in an otherwise residential environment. In order to protect the health of the zone's inhabitants and to prevent the emission of excessive odor and dust, limitations as to the number of animals are requested. It can be expected that a certain amount of odor and dust will be present, and the people who choose to live in this zone should bear this in mind.

Section 29-10-2 Use Requirements

  1. Permitted Uses

    1. One (1) . single-family dwelling per lot or parcel.

    2. Churches, convents, and parish houses except temporary revival tents or structures.

    3. Livestock limited to domestic use, family food production, and youth projects.

    4. Raising of crops, including vegetable garden plots.

    5. Temporary pasturing.

    6. Raising of bees for domestic use only with approval of the Planning Commission.

    7. Home Occupation subject to approval by the Planning Commission.

    8. Hospitals and institutions of an educational, religious, charitable, or philanthropic nature, homes for the aged, nursing homes, and convalescent homes.

    9. Plant nurseries and greenhouses for the propagation, cultivation, and distribution of plants on the premises.

    10. Public and parochial schools and institutions of higher education, and private educational institutions.

    11. Public utility buildings and facilities when necessary for serving the surrounding territory, provided that no public business office and no repair or storage facilities are maintained therein.

    12. Roadside stands offering for sale only garden and orchard products produced on the premises.

    13. Accessory buildings subject to Section 29-3-3.

    14. Quarters for farm workers or caretakers employed on the premises subject to Commission approval.

    15. Livestock buildings and corrals for the keeping of livestock, provided such corrals are located in the rear yard and set back a distance of not less than forty feet (40') from any residential dwelling.

Section 29-10-3 Other Requirements

  1. Requirements and restrictions pertaining to area and width of lots, the location of buildings and structures, the size of yards and open space, the height and size of buildings and the percentage of the lot that may be occupied shall be as set forth in Section 29-1 8-1 of this title relating to the A-R Zone.
